What: Two tribal workshops!

Workshop 1: Intro to American Tribal Style Bellydance (Naima)
9:30 am - 12:30pm

Explore the synergistic world of American Tribal Style Bellydance! This 3 hour workshop will cover basic tribal steps and cues to create an understanding of improvisational dance in a group setting. ATS is an ethnic fusion style of bellydance with flavors of indian, flamenco, and northern african dance. Dancers connect through a series of verbal and non-verbal cues to dance together in a universal dance language. All levels welcome! Wear comfortable clothing and bring plenty of water. Be prepared to laugh.

Naima has been dancing and studying ATS for 6 years, and teaching for the past 2 years. She has been part of several performance troupes. She draws inspiration from nature and humor, and can often be found traveling around New England taking bellydance workshops and performing.

Workshop 2: Intro to Tribal Fusion Bellydance (Erin)
1:30 - 4:30pm

Tribal Fusion bellydance is a combination of bellydance fused with modern forms of dance such as hiphop, modern, and popping. Tribal fusion is known for its combination of slinky sinuous movements, contrasted with sharp pops and locks. Come learn the basics of tribal fusion and a sassy choreography with Erin.

Erin Narey began her dance training over twenty years ago with Miss Helen Deane Bassett at the Salem Ballet Company. She studied classical ballet for fifteen years before earning her BFA in Dance Composition at Emerson College. She studied Modern with Janet Craft of the Ipswich Moving Company, and Jazz with Boston University's Marlena Yannetti. An accomplished performer, Erin has danced ballroom, flamenco, African and hula. She's been a guest choreographer for various theatre and dance companies and has spent a lifetime incorporating all varieties of world dance into her considerable technique.
